Dan Harmon

Dan Harmon serves as director of Maritime.

Named director of the division in August 2013, Harmon is responsible for coordinating with Texas ports, the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, marine-intermodal related projects and representing TxDOT's interests with maritime stakeholders.

A native of Houston, Harmon served 22 years on active duty with the Navy. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in government from the University of Texas, he received his commission in 1989 through the Naval Reserve Officer’s Training program and completed flight training in Pensacola, Fla., and Corpus Christi. Designated a naval aviator, he flew intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. He served in a variety of operations, logistics, command and staff capacities, and deployed to more than 30 countries. He served as operations officer for Commander Task Force 67 in Italy, where he was involved in virtually every aspect of maritime patrol and reconnaissance operations in the European Theater. Harmon also completed two tours onboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, where he was responsible for coordinating the ship’s schedule and managing material, logistic and combat readiness reporting. He also developed and executed an in-port security plan for the first ever visit of a U.S. nuclear-power aircraft carrier to India. Most recently, Harmon worked with the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

Harmon earned a master's degree in business administration, graduating with honors, from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and graduated from the Aviation Safety School, U.S. Naval Test Pilot Short Course. He holds certifications in financial management, test and evaluation, and program management from the Department of Defense.
