SH 42 from US 80 in White Oak South to I-20
TxDOT is developing plans for the improvement of SH 42 from US 80 in White Oak, south to I-20. The project includes expanding the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway with a flush 16-foot median. The expansion will help ease congestion along a corridor that experiences a high percentage of large truck traffic.
Details
Enhancements to this corridor would include:
- Widening from a two-lane road to a four-lane roadway with flush median with the addition of curb and gutter
- Adding a continuous center left-turn lane to provide additional safety
- Redesigning the roadway’s alignment to improve grades and curves to meet current design criteria
The project will require the acquisition of additional right of way.
Schedule
The project received a Finding of No Significant Impact, or environmental clearance, on Mar. 12, 2020. The next steps will be right-of-way acquisitions and the development of construction plans. Right-of-way acquisition is expected to begin by Summer 2020. Based on current financial forecasts, construction activities will begin in 2024.
