Goals

TxDOT, in cooperation with local and regional officials, is responsible for planning, designing, building, operating and maintaining the state's transportation system. Our goals are to:

  • reduce congestion,
  • enhance safety,
  • expand economic opportunity,
  • improve air quality, and
  • preserve the value of transportation assets.

Strategies

TxDOT works to achieve these goals through four strategies:

  • using all financial options to build transportation projects,
  • empowering local leaders to solve local transportation problems,
  • increasing competition to drive down costs, and
  • demanding consumer-driven decisions.
