Director of Engineering Operations for Metro Districts

Bill Hale, P.E.Bill Hale, P.E., serves as director of Engineering Operations for Metro Districts.

Hale is responsible for directing, managing and implementing the department's metro operations and reports directly to the chief engineer. He has served as the Dallas district engineer since November 2003 and was previously the Abilene district engineer.

Hale joined TxDOT's Ellis County Area Office in the Dallas District in 1983 and progressed to resident design engineer in 1985 and assistant area engineer in 1987. Promoted in 1992 to area engineer for the Southeast Dallas County in Hutchins, he was responsible for planning, design, construction and maintenance operations. Prior to his appointment in Dallas, Hale was district engineer for the Abilene District, a post he held since January 1999.

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1983 from the University of Texas at Arlington, Hale earned his master's in civil engineering from the university in 1989. He became a licensed professional engineer in 1988 and taught a graduate course in pavement design as a senior lecturer at UTA from 1992 to 1998.

Hale received the 1996 Luther DeBerry Award for his contributions to Texas transportation and is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. He is also a member of the Chi Epsilon Engineering Fraternity.

A native of Dallas, Hale coaches a youth baseball team and enjoys golf, racquetball and outdoor activities.
