Public Transportation Division Director

Eric L. Gleason serves as director of Public Transportation.

Gleason formerly served as director of service development for the King County Department of Transportation, Metro Transit, in Washington State, one of the largest and most populous counties in the country.

His office was responsible for the planning and implementing public transportation services, facilities, and market development programs for more than 200 routes carrying almost 100 million riders per year. Using innovative financing and incentive packages, Metro partners with employers, institutions, and neighborhoods to encourage the use of alternative transportation modes and reduce congestion.

Prior to joining King County Metro in 1985, Gleason was a transit planner for the Tri-County Metropolitan Transit District of Oregon. He also served two years in the Peace Corps in the Solomon Islands.

He earned his bachelor of science degree in resource economics from the University of New Hampshire in 1977 and a master's degree in city and regional planning from the University of North Carolina in 1979.
