Purpose: TxDOT and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Mobility Authority) are hosting an open house for the MoPac South corridor between Cesar Chavez Street and Slaughter Lane.

The open house is an opportunity to provide feedback about potential mobility improvements to the MoPac south corridor from Cesar Chavez Street to Slaughter Lane. The study team has responded to the community’s request for additional analysis of the proposed express lanes concept and will share information about several potential operational configuration options. A No-Build, or Do-Nothing Alternative continues to be considered as required by the environmental process.

At the open house, project team members will be on hand to answer questions and provide information. No formal presentation will be given, and attendees are invited to come and go at their convenience.

If you can’t attend the open house in person, you can review exhibits, watch informational videos and submit comments and questions through the virtual open house between Wednesday, Oct. 21 and Friday, Nov. 20, 2015.

Visit MoPac South for more information and to sign up for regular project updates and additional event information.

Description: The MoPac corridor south of Lady Bird Lake is a vital artery for Austin commuters and neighbors, as well as visitors to our region. Constructed between 1975 and 1992 as a four- to six-lane divided highway, it attracts up to 150,000 cars and trucks per day. Over time, population growth and development have increased and are negatively impacting the quality of life for corridor travelers.

The Mobility Authority and TxDOT are developing the environmental study and are working with the city of Austin, Capital Metro and other local partners to improve safety and mobility for drivers, transit riders, bicyclists and pedestrians in a manner that promotes environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
