AMARILLO, TX – The westbound bridge on I-40 at Bushland will partially reopen to traffic Tuesday morning, March 7, following last week’s accident in which a semitruck veered off the interstate, striking the bridge over RM 2381 before catching fire. The Texas Department of Transportation’s Bridge Division has determined that the bridge is structurally sound, but the bridge will be restricted to legal loads only.
At this time, work continues in determining the necessary repairs and the length of time it will take to complete those repairs. Westbound I-40 will reopen to traffic on the inside (south) lane with narrow shoulders starting on the morning of Tuesday, March 7. Until then, westbound I-40 traffic will continue to be detoured at RM 2381 onto the frontage road.
RM 2381 is anticipated to open to traffic with reduced lanes starting the week of March 13.
