CHILDRESS – TxDOT will begin a project in mid-April to replace the illumination fixtures on I-40 in Wheeler County, beginning at the Gray County line to the Oklahoma state line.

The luminaires (overhead street lights) will be replaced with LED bulbs to improve the lighting along this portion of I-40.

Contractor for this $246,764 project is Vaca Underground Utilities Inc. of Houston, Texas. Weather permitting, this project should take approximately 30 days to complete.

Motorists can expect one-lane closures during daylight hours only. TxDOT encourages motorists to watch for signs, equipment and workers in the construction work zone.
