ELLIS COUNTY – TxDOT is beginning construction on a 36-month project that will widen US 287.

The $64 million project will widen the existing two-lane undivided highway to a four-lane urban freeway with separate interchanges and frontage roads. The mainlanes of US 287 will ultimately pass over Ensign Road, FM 1183 and Rudd Road. Frontage roads will be continuous and will have stop signs at these three cross streets.

During construction, temporary, fully signalized intersections will be maintained where US 287 crosses the three roadways.

The 4.4-mile project is being led by Fluor Enterprises Inc., a global contract engineering firm with an office in Dallas.

Motorists are urged to be mindful of workers in the construction zone. TxDOT asks for the patience of the traveling public during this project.
