HOUSTON — In recognition of National Work Zone Awareness Week, April 3-7, TxDOT’s ongoing awareness campaign highlights individuals involved in work zone crashes through the “Humans at Work” initiative. The effort puts a human face to those affected by work zone crashes by featuring TxDOT employees sharing their work zone stories. The initiative urges drivers to be attentive and adhere to posted traffic signs in work zones.
In 2016, work zone crashes increased 15 percent statewide, resulting in a 27 percent increase in fatalities. In 2016 in Houston, there were 1,125 crashes in work zones, resulting in four fatalities and 16 serious injuries.
