PHARR – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announces an update on the “Continuous Illumination Project.” Traf-Tex Inc, a TxDOT contractor, will be working on the installation of LED fixtures on Interstate 69E in the Brownsville/San Benito area between FM 509 and East University Boulevard from now until mid-May 2017.

At the conclusion of this segment, Traf-Tex Inc will work on another area. The project, which began in February 2017, is an 18-month project and a coordinated effort between TxDOT and the Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) in the area. State funds allocated to the MPOs from Prop 1 funds (nearly $3 million) are being used to upgrade to LED lights on I-69C (US 281) and on Interstate 2 (US 83/US77).
