Intersection expansion project entering final stages
AUSTIN — Drivers traveling along SH 71 at Southwest Parkway in Travis County will need to allow a little more time to reach their destination beginning Sept. 13.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is widening the road to include continuous turn lanes, an acceleration lane and paved shoulders at the Southwest Parkway intersection. The work is aimed at addressing increased safety and mobility in the area. With the first phases of construction completed, crews are ready to tackle the major expansion work.
Starting Friday, SH 71 will be reduced to one lane in each direction at Southwest Parkway for about eight months. Motorists should drive with caution through this work zone and allow themselves extra time for possible delays.
The Texas Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining 80,000 miles of road and for supporting aviation, rail, and public transportation across the state.
