$3 mil for Improvements
MONTAGUE COUNTY — Relief for road headaches on FM 677 are underway as part of a $3 million dollar rehabilitation and safety project. Over the next 10 months TxDOT contractor Jagoe Public Co. will be working South of US 82 to just South of FM 1630.
The project covers nine miles of roadway in Montague County. The job includes repairing the base of the roadbed and a new overlay of hotmix asphalt. Shoulders will be added to the roadway from Star Mann Road to just South of FM 1630.
The contractor has 150 working days to complete the work. It is expected to wrap up by November 2013.
The contractor is starting with prepping the right of way and extending the drainage structures to accommodate a wider road. Soon heavy equipment will arrive to start repairs and paving. During construction motorists can expect lane closures that will require flaggers and pilot cars to get drivers through the work zone.
This work is necessary due to all the extreme truck traffic experienced in the region. The roadway is in need of the repairs and widening to provide safer travel for all vehicles on the highway. It is being paid for through a combination of funding sources both state and federal.
Drivers are reminded to be especially careful during the work. Narrow roads and semis along with construction workers, just steps from serious injury, will require patience. TxDOT anticipates that the finished roadway will increase safety and ease of travel for all.
