The SH 26 project in Grapevine will rebuild the road from two lanes in each direction with a continuous left turn lane to three lanes in each direction with raised curb medians and left turn bays. The 1.5 mile project limits are from just south of State Highway 114 to Brumlow Avenue/Pool Road.
The project was awarded to Texas Sterling Construction Co. of Houston for $11.9 million. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be open and access to the businesses along the corridor will be maintained throughout construction. The Cotton Belt hike and bike trail adjacent to the project is closed between Brumlow Avenue/Pool Road and Mustang Drive until summer 2013.
Motorists were shifted to new lanes in summer 2012. Project completion is estimated for summer/fall 2013.
The next .6-mile length of the SH 26 section from Brumlow Avenue/Pool Road to John McCain Road in Colleyville was let for construction to AUI Contractors for $11.5 million. Project completion is estimated for summer 2014.
