SH 36 Corridor

TxDOT is proposing several projects along the SH 36 in Ford Bend and Brazoria counties, from Spur 10 to FM 1495. The public is encouraged to learn more about the following projects along the SH 36 corridor:

Current conditions

The purpose of these corridor improvements is to improve safety by providing additional capacity during hurricane evacuation events and to reduce traffic congestion due to population growth. The existing SH 36 corridor is typically a two-lane undivided roadway in Fort Bend and Brazoria Counties. The purpose of these improvements is to:

  • Improve safety by adding additional capacity during hurricane evacuations
  • Improve capacity to increase mobility given projected population growth in the region; specifically north of the project corridor in Fort Bend County and south of the project corridor at the Port of Freeport in Brazoria County
  • Improve intermodal relationships with the Port of Freeport

Proposed corridor improvements

  • Expand to a four-lane divided roadway with a grassy center median in rural sections
  • Add center left-turn lane in urban sections
  • Extend Spur 10 south of US 59 along Hartledge Road
  • Add sidewalks in some sections

Current status

The process of construction is being divided into two phases. The first phase of construction on Spur 10 includes extending Spur 10 south along Hartledge Road, and that work has been completed. The second phase of construction on SH 36 from US 59 to FM 1495 will include widening the two-lane highway to a four-lane highway. The right-of-way process for this phase of construction is currently underway, and some displacements will be required. The public is also encouraged visit the TxDOT Project Tracker to learn more.
