TxDOT is developing preliminary plans for the expansion of SH 42 from US 80 in White Oak, south to I-20. The project includes expanding the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway with a flush 16-foot median. The expansion will help ease congestion along a corridor that experiences a high percentage of large truck traffic.
Enhancements to this heavily traveled corridor would include:
The project would require the acquisition of additional right of way.
TxDOT and its consultants are in the initial stages of the project’s development. The team is currently conducting field visits and identifying the viable alternatives. Once the alternatives are defined, a public meeting will be scheduled to present the options. The alternatives will also be posted to this web page.
For a project this size, the preliminary engineering development will take approximately two years. TxDOT started work on the project in March 2017.
TxDOT will host a number of meetings in an effort to engage the public. Adjacent property owners and other interested citizens will have a chance to provide input, voice concerns and ask questions. No meetings are scheduled at this time, but please check back regularly for any updates.
