The Rail Division oversees rail planning and inspection, highway-rail crossings, management of the South Orient Railroad, and rail public transit safety.
The division has the authority to implement rail improvements by entering into public-private partnership agreements. State rail safety inspectors coordinate with Federal Railroad Administration authorities on signals, equipment, track structures, operating practices, and hazardous materials investigations.
