Lauren Garduño, P.E., serves as interim director of Transportation Planning and Programming.
Lauren began his TxDOT career in 1987 and has held a variety of positions, rising through the ranks to his current assignment. Lauren has spent most of his career in West Texas, including Amarillo, Odessa and Abilene, serving for 14 years as a district engineer.
Along the way, Lauren held several interim assignments, serving as district engineer in San Angelo and Brownwood and as West Region Director. On Lauren’s watch, the Odessa District saw major build-outs of key projects including the Midland reliever route, the John Ben Shepperd interchange, Holiday Hill road, and the Midkiff to interstate expansion. In Abilene, Lauren took the Big Spring reliever route through planning and design and was involved in initial planning for one-way frontage road conversion projects within the city of Abilene. Lauren has also led award-winning process improvement teams in the areas of highway design and paperless offices.
Lauren has received peer recognition with awards such as Young Engineer of the Year and Engineer of the Year through the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. In 2001, he was inducted into the Texas Tech Civil Engineering Academy.
Lauren holds a master's degree in management and human relations from Abilene Christian University, a master’s degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas Tech University.
