I-10 Dominion
The average daily traffic of 79,000 vehicles in the Leon Springs area of IH 10 West is lower than in many sections of highway near San Antonio, but crash rates in this area are almost double the statewide average. The danger concentrates on the frontage roads, where 186 crashes occurred during 2006-2011. The proposed improvements to IH 10 from Dominion Drive to Ralph Fair Road will improve safety. The result is an anticipated crash reduction of at least 43 percent, making the roadway safer for millions of travelers. Phase one of the proposed two-phase implementation process is expected to let in the Summer 2013. First-phase improvements will raise the overpass bridge at Ralph Fair Road and build new turnaround bridges. The frontage roads between Boerne Stage Road and Ralph Fair Road will transition to one-way roads. Improvements proposed for phase two include the widening and conversion of two-way frontage roads to one-way from Dominion Drive to Ralph Fair Road. Additional operational improvements will be made at Boerne Stage Road and the construction of ramp reconfigurations will be necessary. Phase two will cost an estimated $19.5M, and is scheduled to let in Fall 2014. Traditional funds will supply the $10.1 million in total project costs on phase one. Phase two will cost nearly $20 million.
