Transportation planning
Connecting Texas 2050, the latest update to the Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan (SLRTP), is the cornerstone multimodal transportation planning document at TxDOT. Updated every four years, this plan considers current and future transportation choices and how they integrate as a system to serve Texans and our economy. With Connecting Texas 2050, TxDOT establishes the vision, goals, objectives, performance measures, and strategic recommendations for the state’s multimodal transportation system through 2050. Connecting Texas 2050 development kicked off in fall 2022 and concluded in summer 2024 with the Texas Transportation Commission adopting the plan on July 30, 2024.

TxDOT appreciates the participation from thousands of Texans across the state. Since 2022, top priorities we heard from the public were the need for safety, alternative modes and public transportation options, and maintenance of existing infrastructure. With this valuable feedback, Connecting Texas 2050 is presented as a shared vision for the future of transportation in Texas.
